The drawings of Michael Venezia (*1935 in Brooklyn, US) were created as a special edition for the exhibitions Versions at the Kunstverein Heilbronn (2016). The artist sketches his series of works Bars on acid-free wood fibre boards with pastel chalk and ink. This series of works is exemplary for Venezia's exploration of the pictorial surface: he transforms the painting ground on wooden bars, which he works on with pastose paint application using a spatula. Each of the wooden plates is marked on the back with the artist's signature and labelled with the year and title of the drawing. Venezia's spontaneous gesture and ductus can also be felt in the drawings of the preferred edition; fingerprints and traces of his hand stroking over the surface remind us of the vital process of creation. The drawings are unique and embedded in a high-quality cassette with the catalogue of the exhibition in Heilbronn Michael Venezia. Paintings.
