Thunderbolt (2021) is a 13-piece edition of wall sculptures by artist Niko Abramidis &NE in the form of a lightning bolt made of marble, with an eye-shaped cut in its upper half. The symbol of the discharge of celestial electricity is universally known from Greek mythology, in which Zeus throws lightning from the sky to express his power with destructive force. From above, he looks down on the happenings on earth and surveys the behavior of mankind. The imagery of Niko Abramidis &NE can always be transferred in relation to the undertakings of large corporations and interpreted as a humorous commentary. Thus, Thunderbolt stands here as a cautionary sign to refer to capitalist power structures that affect the everyday lives of many people. At the same time, the jagged shape of the wall sculpture also refers to rising stock prices, which shoot up like lightning and whose prices, as if foreseen by divine input, allow the shareholder to ascend to the Olympus of the market.
