Rindon Johnson's first solo exhibition in Asia spans seven months, reflecting the time it took him to swim from his home in San Francisco to Shanghai. In Johnson's own words: "I wanted to cross the Pacific, but I don't know how to sail." This exhibition marks his attempt to confront this challenge. At its center is a specially commissioned seven-month animation that captures this unconventional journey. Rindon Johnson invites us to view the Pacific not as a familiar entity, but as an ever-evolving, elusive space where fantasy and reality collide. Within this oceanic realm, discussions unfold about resource extraction, indigenous and ecological sovereignty, colonial trade legacies, and the enigmatic prospects of ecological futurism.
