For the project Art in Parlament, Brigitte Kowanz developed the in situ work The Proclamation of the Republic 12.11.1918. On November 12. 1918, in Vienna, the Republic of German-Austria was proclaimed in front of the Parliament: After the end of World War I, it was decided by the Provisional National Assembly that Austria would be founded as a democratic republic.
This event, which is engraved in Austrian history, is translated into a light code and installed as a luminous trace on the wall of the new committee room. As a beacon of light, it is intended not only to commemorate history but also to shed light on current events.
Light makes things visible and influences our perception of the world, light defines places and simultaneously creates energetic spaces. (Excerpt from the press text)
