Troika installs the permanent sculpture Die Quadratur des Kreises in Wiesbaden in collaboration with R+V Versicherung and with the support of Häusler Contemporary and max goelitz.
The sculpture is a continuation of a series of works that also includes Dark Matter (2014), Polar Spectrum (2015), and Everything is and isn't at the same time (2015). Inspired by Edwin Abbott's satirical novel Flatland, in which the inhabitants of a two-dimensional world cannot recognize a three-dimensional object, these works are a mutation of different shapes perceived depending on the position of the viewer. The 4-meter-high sculpture made of painted stainless steel becomes the gateway of the surrounding public square. Depending on the angle of view, it has the shape of a square or a circle, making it decidedly simple, as well as complex. The viewers are confronted with the sculpture that challenges a logical and visual sensibility, pointing to a possible unity of seemingly contradictory shapes and the possible limits of understanding reality.
