Niko Abramidis &NE transforms the CAS – Center for Advanced Studies of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University into a headquarters of secret research, cognition and knowledge generation. Similar to an early modern repository of knowledge, the DYOR U Center functions as a think tank where Niko Abramidis &NE explores his own artistic vision of virtual economic markets and humanistic value systems.
The first part of the title DYOR refers to the cryptocurrency scene slogan "Do Your Own Research" and encourages to critically examine offers and opinions before making any investments. The additional “U“, short form of “You“, is also the name of Tom McCarthy's protagonist in his science fiction novel “Satin Island“ (2015). He is a data analyst and anthropologist exploring the meaning and significance of information in the modern world. Like U in "Satin Island“, Niko Abramidis &NE explores the connection between knowledge and reality at the new headquarters, deciphering archaic codes to gain deeper understanding and insight into the future.

Motifs of information transmission, knowledge transfer and reproduction play an important role in the work of Niko Abramidis &NE as well as in that of the writer Tom McCarthy. Both refer to early modern and futuristic media, documents, lists, symbols and world concepts. Accordingly, the panel discussion will address the ways in which both artists use fragments from theory and science in their work.
Tom McCarthy is a writer, artist, and the secretary general of the International Necronautical Society, a semi-fictional avant-garde network.
Claudia Olk is a Professor for Anglistics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University.
