The artist book Air Conditioned Hours features photographs capturing Ju Young Kims perspective as a transcontinental traveler, accompanied by short stories created in collaboration with Guilherme Vilhena Martins, based on diary entries, thoughts, conversations, and travel observations. The publication was co-conceptualized and designed by Maximilian Schachtner and published by Edition Taube. Inspired by airplane meals, a limited special edition of 50 copies is also presented, packaged in an aluminum tray with a foldable metal spoon, reminiscent of a lunchbox. Themes such as temporality and transience are explored, with the spoon-inspired design, engraved with Art Nouveau motifs, reflecting tensions between ephemerality, permanence, movement, grounding, and the compactness of travel.
The book launch is accompanied by an installation of the artist's works and a mixed reading performance by Guilherme Vilhena Martins, in which the texts are read aloud like in-flight announcements over a speaker system.
