when there were more donkeys than icosahedrons | gabriel rico
Gabriel Rico (*1980 in Lagos de Moreno, MX) ironically and poetically comments on the ambivalence between the natural environment and man-made principles of order. This solo exhibition features physical sculptures and installations made of seemingly unrelated objects – found natural materials with industrial objects – which are complemented by augmented reality to open up an additional metaphysical level of meaning. Like earlier Arte Povera artists, Rico uses stone, wood, or grain as materials but sets them in playful contrast to consumer products. With a post-Surrealist approach, he develops new and unique narratives that address the relationship between nature, architecture, and the legacy of civilization.
