Mona Schulzek
Mona Schulzek (*1992, lives and works in Berlin, DE) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work is situated in the dialog between art and science, especially astronomy. With a profound interest in the connection between human existence and the infinite dimensions of time and space, she understands art as a cosmic language - a form of knowledge that finds expression beyond formulas and words. Schulzek's artistic practice is based on a synthesis of terrestrial and extraterrestrial materials, such as steel, aluminum, meteorites and scientific observations, which she brings together in experimental processes. In her installations and apparatuses, these materials serve as symbols for the “primordial” and the “finite” and simultaneously embody historical narratives and futuristic visions. By combining these opposites, she brings together individual, collective and cosmic aspects and opens up perspectives that understand art as a bridge between the known and the unknown.
Mona Schulzek graduated in 2023 as a Meisterschülerin at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Gregor Schneider and Peter Piller. She was awarded the “Junger Westen” art prize (2023), the Max Ernst Scholarship (2019) and the Vonovia Award for Photography (2019). Her works are represented in the collections of the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, the Max Ernst Museum and the Kunstmuseum Bochum and have been shown in institutions such as the Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf (2021), the Sprengel Museum Hannover (2021) and the SANSHANG Contemporary Art Museum in Hangzhou (2019). In 2025, Schulzek will open an exhibition under the concept “MUR BRUT” at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf.
