Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė
Dorota Gawęda (*1986 in Lubin, PL) and Eglė Kulbokaitė (*1987 in Kaunas, LT) work as an artist duo in the fields of performance, sculpture, painting, installation, and video. Their practice explores the intersection of technology, gender, language, and identity. Known for their multimedia works, which often adopt feminist and queer perspectives, they examine the construction of identity and collective memories in the digital age. Their works are influenced by speculative narratives, science fiction, and cyberfeminism, frequently opening up alternative realities where new possibilities of being and perception are conceived. They create multisensory works that often incorporate sound and scents to tell complex stories, that encompass both personal and collective experiences, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction.
The duo recently exhibited, among other places, at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2023), Kunsthalle Mainz (2023), Kunstraum Niederoesterreich in Vienna (2022), Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris (2022) and Kunstverein Hamburg (2021). Previously they have participated in exhibitions at Kunstverein Leipzig (2021), Swiss Institute in New York (2020), Julia Stoschek Collection in Düsseldorf (2020), Futura, Prague (2019), Lafayette Anticipations in Paris (2019) and Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2018). They were awarded the CERN Collide Award 2022, Allegro Prize (2022) and Swiss Performance Art Award (2021). In 2025 Gawęda and Kulbokaitė will be in residence at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. They are founders of the “Young girl reading group” (2013-2021), whose collective activity is part of their artistic work.
